Nothing leaves your Mac
The model is a file you choose once and it stays on your disk. There is no account, no API key, no server, and the app makes no network request of its own at any point. Turn the network off and it behaves exactly the same.
That is not a privacy policy, it is the architecture. An app that sends the sentence you are halfway through to somebody else's computer cannot be made private by a promise, and this one has nowhere to send it.
Why it is not on the Mac App Store
Reading the words just before your cursor, in another application, is the macOS Accessibility API. macOS never grants Accessibility to a sandboxed app, and the App Store requires the sandbox. So it is sold here, signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, which is the other way Apple supports.
Pinned and Pinned Notes are sandboxed and are on the App Store. Pinned Type and Pinned Tools cannot be, and saying so plainly is better than pretending it was a preference.
What it needs
A model
Any GGUF file. You pick it once through an open panel and it is copied into the app's own folder, so the original can be deleted afterwards.
Accessibility access
Granted by you in System Settings. It is the only way macOS lets an app read the text around your cursor or put a suggestion after it.
Apple silicon
The model runs on the GPU through Metal. An Intel Mac would be too slow to be worth using, so it is not offered rather than offered badly.
Nothing else
No account, no sign-in, no subscription, no telemetry, no crash reporting and no server belonging to the developer.
Free, with a daily limit
Without a licence the app gives you a full working day of completions and then stops until tomorrow. That is a real limit rather than a demo: it is meant to let the app earn a little trust before it asks for anything.
Your licence works offline
There is no licence server. Your key is checked on your own Mac with a signature, the app makes no request when it starts, and it keeps working with the network off forever. The licence carries your name and covers every 1.x release. It is a receipt, not a lock: a check inside a binary you own can be removed by somebody determined enough, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest.
Keys are per app. A Pinned Tools key does not unlock Pinned Type and a Pinned Type key does not unlock Pinned Tools. They are separate programs, bought separately.
Getting your licence in
Buying sends a key to your email beginning PY1-. Open Pinned Type from the
menu bar, choose Settings, then Licence, and paste the whole key. If it wrapped across lines
in your mail client, paste it anyway: the line breaks are ignored.
